The Kernal of Your Creative Soul

Friday 03 August 2018 - Posted by Julia McCutchen

From plant to plate, it took about 15 minutes yesterday for the first sweetcorns of the season to be harvested from the vegetable garden, prepared and cooked for lunch.

First I identified which ones were ripe and ready by checking the colour of the fringe at their tip and feeling the well-wrapped cobs within the layers of outer casing.

With a sharp curved knife in my hand, I thanked the plant that’s taller than I am for its beauty and bounty; then sliced the stem at the base.

Removing the Layers

With the weighty cob in one hand, I began the process of removing the layers one by one – it took a while as there were so many.

Finally the bright yellow kernals were revealed.

I was delighted to see how magnificent they are this year; clearly the hot summer sun has created the ideal conditions for these fabulous plants to reach their full potential.

Wholeheartedly Satisfied

After just two minutes simmering in the pan, we bit into the exquisitely sweet and juicy morsels and the audible “Wow!” was impossible to contain.

Savouring every bite until the end, we felt wholeheartedly satisfied in body, mind and soul, and deeply grateful for the opportunity to be a conscious participant in this natural cycle.

Sowing seeds, providing the best possible conditions for them to grow and then benefitting so much from the harvest is deeply rewarding at every level.

Creative Awakening

It also beautifully reflects the different stages of the creative process and the voyage into the kernel of your creative soul.

Take the act of peeling away the outer casing to reveal the golden corn as an example.

The layers could be interpreted as the doubts, fears and judgement that are always present to one degree or another on the journey I refer to as creative awakening.

It’s like stripping away the illusion of conditioned patterns to see things as they truly are, including your Self.

Conscious Flow

Unlike the sweetcorn, however, your inner core is already completely whole, ripe and naturally creative.

When you tap into this deep wellspring of unlimited potential, you shift into a whole new level of conscious flow.

It doesn’t mean there aren’t any more challenges to face or thresholds to cross.

Yet when you’re consciously connected to the kernel of what I’m referring to as your creative soul, you’re rooted in a state of being that emanates from wholeness.

This enables you to get out of your own way and handle whatever arises more confidently and skilfully.

So what if…

… instead of it taking weeks, months or years to peel back the layers of what’s holding you back from diving in to the kernel of your creative soul, you gave yourself full permission to do so right now?

… you wrote a Manifesto affirming your innate wholeness as the source of your deepest creative insights as well as the freedom to express yourself joyfully and authentically in the world?

… in the process you discover your deepest connection to life and your Self as an expression of that ultimate creative force?

Food for thought – and action – perhaps?

Where are you in relation to peeling back the layers to reveal the kernel of your creative soul? Please share your comments and experience below. Thank you!

  • Beautiful. To answer your question truthfully, half way there. At times I remember my inner being who underpins my creative soul and message. At other times I lose contact with him. The good news is that I’ve got it up to 50% – a real advance on a few years ago. Onwards and upwards. Actually, I’ve just completed a short story, so generation is occurring.

    • Thank you Peter. Half way there is wonderful, and I fully acknowledge and respect the intention and commitment you’ve applied to making that your reality – good for you. Congratulations on completing your short story; here’s to the next 50%!
