Personal Reflection on Presence

Friday 19 May 2017 - Posted by Julia McCutchen

The mist hangs lightly over the fields,
drawing my gaze into the mystery of the moment.

Crisp clarity above the wafting stream of vapour
provides a rich background of all shades of green, silver,
and the subtle gold of the landscape beyond.

The early morning moisture sparkles in the first rays of sun as the fresh, earthy scent
from the awakening woodland breathes life into the world.

The feathered choir begins a call and response that gradually escalates to a chorus of
multi-layered sound which fills the air with an exquisite and eternal song,
and pours right through my physical form.

I sit in stillness; supremely alert with sharpened senses
yet soft and open as the new day dawns.

I feel the inner spaces lengthen and interruptions soon retreat into the source
from which they came as expansion from the focused mind gives way
to being here, embracing Now.

This is one of the “Personal Reflections” extracted from my book Conscious Writing (see p 195). It was written a few years ago with the aim of sharing my experience of awe-inspiring presence in a particular occurrence of the eternal Now!

Please share your reaction in the Comments box below and/or write about one of your own awe-inspiring experiences when you felt fully present in the moment.

  • I loved this very beautiful description of presence. I really felt I was there. Last night I could not sleep, I was thinking of my garden and a tree which has had to be cut down, as my garden wall has collapsed. I felt this tree was calling me, it needed water. I got up, filled the watering can and walked very carefully donw the garden path. I took the time to stop and look up at the night sky, it was a clear night, and filled with stars, I let its beauty soak into me, and I felt connected to the stars. It felt like like a magical moment of connection to the earth, the dark trees all around me, the stars shining in the inky blue sky, a true moment of presence.

    • Thank you Daphne, I’m so glad you enjoyed my description of that particular moment of presence. And how lovely that you followed your inner impulse and experienced such a wonderful sense of connection with the earth, the trees and the stars as a true moment of presence in your night time garden adventure. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
