IACCW Member Event: How Conscious Writers Can Flip the Switch from Inner Critic to Inner Coach

Julia McCutchen interviews Suze Casey

Suze Casey explains that she “writes because she cannot not write”. Yet, moving from writer to widely published author took more courage than she knew she could muster. She had to face all the vulnerabilities, doubts and fears she had developed from the responses and feedback she had ever received. She had to come to know and value herself in a stronger and more committed way.

In this interview, you will discover:

  • how to enter into – and out of – your creative space with ease
  • an effective and efficient way to move through writer’s block or any other form of doubt or fear
  • how to effectively acknowledge what has been in the way and give yourself permission to speak openly from the heart
  • a simple decision-making process that will open the doors to new ways of writing
  • how to recognize your authentic voice and have it become your way of being – in all areas of your life.

The developer of the Belief Re-patterning® technique, Suze Casey has always been fascinated with the mysteries of the human mind. She spent twenty years as an educator, and since 1999 has completely followed her passion – supporting others to learn, grow and embrace their potential. She is the author of Belief Re-patterning: The Amazing Technique for “Flipping the Switch” to Positive Thoughts (Hay House) and travels extensively offering workshops, seminars and conference keynotes as well as maintaining a vital international coaching practice.  See www.suzecasey.com and www.beliefrepatterning.com

The 5 Core Practices of Highly Successful Conscious Writers

The image of an iceberg is a wonderful metaphor for the creative writing process.

The 10% we see above the surface of the water represents the actual words of the blogs, books and other communications we write. It arises out of the 90% that is largely hidden from view yet without which the iceberg would not exist at all.

The same principle applies to our writing. A large proportion of the work we do as writers is invisible to our readers but greatly determines the quality of our work and the contribution it makes to the world.

The following 5 practices may not be obvious as part of the mix from the outside looking in when we read the latest book from our favourite author.

Yet, having spoken with thousands of highly successful Conscious Writers, and from both personal and professional experience of Conscious Writing in action, these practices come up time and again as the foundation for authentic success.

I invite you to dip into one or all of these practices to the extent it feels right for you at this time and see from your own personal experience what contribution they make to your writing, your authorship, and your life.

January Inspiration for Aspiring & Published Authors

“To get the right word in the right place is a rare achievement.

To condense the diffused light of a page of thought
into the luminous flash of a single sentence,
is worthy to rank as a prize composition just by itself …

Anybody can have ideas –
the difficulty is to express them without squandering a quire of paper
on an idea that ought to have been reduced
to one glittering paragraph.”

Mark Twain

Conscious Writers work creatively with first draft thoughts,
and refine them to a condensed final form of words
for maximum authentic impact.

To your conscious & creative success!

IACCW Member Event: Awakening to Your True Creative Potential as a Conscious Writer

Julia McCutchen interviews Steve Taylor

When we ‘wake up’, our whole lives become an expression of a higher state of consciousness. Awakening transforms our relationships, our values, goals and our perspective of reality. It also often opens us up to a great reservoir of creativity.

In this conversation you will learn:

  • Why there is such a strong connection between spiritual awakening and creativity
  • Why so many poets and authors have been spiritually awakened, and so many spiritual teachers have also been poets and authors
  • The sources of the surface discord of the human mind and how to transcend it
  • How to cultivate a state of inner harmony which will naturally give rise to creative expression
  • What ‘awakening experiences’ are and how to generate them as a Conscious Writer

Steve Taylor is a lecturer in psychology at Leeds Metropolitan University, and the author of several best-selling books on psychology and spirituality including Back to Sanity and The Meaning. He was recently included (at no. 31) in Mind, Body, Spirit magazine’s list of the ‘100 most spiritually influential living people.’ Eckhart Tolle has described his work as ‘an important contribution to the shift in consciousness which is happening on our planet at present’. Steve’s articles and essays have been published in over 40 academic journals, magazines and newspapers, and his work has been featured widely in the UK media. See www.stevenmtaylor.co.uk

Date: Thursday 10th January Time: 16:00 GMT / 11:00 EST

The Journey of Birthing a Book

BeautifulSpiral_ColouredI am delighted to introduce this guest post by author and spiritual teacher Amoda Maa Jeevan. Enjoy!

Writing a book, for me, is like giving birth. From the moment of conception to the emergence of the final manuscript, the journey follows an archetypal pattern that transcends any “how to’s” or “techniques”.

It’s by tapping into this universal birthing process – and by the way, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman, we all have this impulse embedded in our genetic coding – that we can bypass the voice of ego and get into a zone of authentic expression.

Writing from this deeper place makes a world of difference to how your words meet the page and to how the page is read by your audience.

Voice of Ego or Voice of Authentic Self?

The ego is concerned with self-gratification: its primary motivation is “What can I get?” In other words, it is driven by the need to add to its sense of identity. It doesn’t actually matter whether this identity is a positive one or a negative one, as long as it “pumps up” what it already knows about itself. This is called “staying in the comfort zone”.

Symposium Snippets: Wise Words for Writers – Part 1

2012Symposium_logoThe IACCW 2012 Symposium brought together an inspiring mix of bestselling authors and international experts who are each making an important contribution to the world from their particular area of expertise.

Conscious and creative writers have an important role to play in this year of major change and transformation.

Authors who have already succeeded in expressing their message with authenticity and impact have a great deal of experience to offer writers who are on their way to doing the same.

Here are some of the key points from the first three of our Symposium Speakers to support you as an author:

Lynne McTaggart, award-winning journalist and author of six cutting edge books that have been translated into 28 languages, spoke to us on Understanding the Bond: the Power of Stories to Change our World

  • Stories engage people emotionally so you need to draw the reader towards the key point(s) of your book in an enjoyable way by telling lots of stories interspersed with your central message.
  • “Show don’t tell” applies to non-fiction as well as fiction.
  • Make sure your background research is solid and build a relationship with your reader through stories.
  • Be prepared to live and breathe your topic in order to write authentically.
  • It’s time for a new world story and writers have a key role in telling that new story in their own way. We need to look deeply, demonstrate what “is”, entertain, and inspire people to positive action.

The Alpha and Omega of Creative Expression

CreativeCycle_EmptyCirclesIn a recent coaching session with a Mentor Program writer, I was reminded of the importance of refreshing our memory about core principles on a regular basis. This ensures we remain on track at every level as conscious & creative writers.

On this occasion, the prompt was to do with giving full permission to pause briefly following an extremely successful burst of creative productivity. This pause provided a much needed mid project recharge before diving in to the next phase of activity.

The core principle being applied here relates to the fact that the creative impulse arises from – and returns to – space. This alpha and omega of creative expression includes space in our schedule, space in our environment, and most importantly, space in our mind.

Even if we aren’t consciously aware of it, at a deep level the original creative impulse has its source in the space of infinite potential out of which everything flows.

The Power of Connection: Make or Break for Conscious & Creative Writers

Paper Chain SkyI recently returned from the Hay House “I Can Do It!” weekend where a host of successful authors presented their latest offerings to an enthusiastic crowd.

Seekers of all ages, backgrounds and a number of different countries gathered to hear the latest discoveries in spirituality, science, and self-help.

Each speaker shared their expertise and experience using their own language, evidence and stories.

Essentially, however, they were all delivering the same core message …
