Making a commitment to something – or someone – is all about making a pledge or a promise … and then engaging yourself totally in the fulfilment of it.
As far as your writing is concerned, developing and strengthening the quality of your commitment will mean the difference between writing or not writing, and taking action or allowing resistance to hold you back.
Commitment sets the scene for all of the small choices that you make every day in relation to your writing.
It also guides you when you come to make the larger decisions regarding how to move forwards when you’re ready to take your work out to the marketplace. And it helps you to access the information and support you need to do so.
Ultimately, your degree of commitment to your writing will be a strong determining factor in your experience of ‘success’ or ‘failure’ – however you choose to define what those terms mean for you.

It is with great pleasure that I introduce here our first guest blog post from author and publisher Jo Parfitt:
They say you should write about what you know, and so, in 1998 I wrote and published a book called A Career in Your Suitcase, based on what I had learned about creating and maintaining a portable career overseas.
You see, what I ‘knew’ was how to create a career, based on what I most loved to do and then move that career from country to country. In my case this meant from England to Dubai, then Oman and onto Norway. In a really old chestnut of a cliché, ‘I had been there, done that and got the teeshirt’ and I believed that my experience qualified me to write the book. I was right. People loved my book and in a couple of years I had sold out. It was time for a second edition.

Julia McCutchen interviews Andrea Beaulieu
Thursday 3rd June at
16:00 BST / 11:00 EST
We all have it – that still, small voice that urges us gently, quietly, but ever so confidently, in the direction of our highest good. It is our authentic voice – the one we were born knowing. Then, through experience and the conditioning of the mind, we often lose our conscious connection to it, except perhaps during times of danger, or when we have surrendered to our authentic self so deeply and joyfully that we hear it and follow it.
That same voice is the voice of our highest creativity. It is the voice that gives us the perfect idea, solution or direction. It gives us the perfect words and actions to express our uniqueness. It is the voice that shows up when we face the blank page, if we listen for it and to it. It is our authentic voice.

Writing and living are at their best when you are in the present moment, living with intensity and exuberance.
Yet, to a greater or lesser degree, most of us are caught in the grips of what the Buddhist traditions call the “Four Worldly Addictions”. Learning how to break free from their grip reduces your suffering, and liberates your creativity and happiness.
Blending contemporary insights from psychotherapy with ancient insights from Eastern and Western Philosophy, Joseph Sestito will show you how to unlock your creativity to apply to your writing as well as to your relationships and to your in life in general.

About this time last year I made a decision to pursue an idea for a major new creative project despite having no idea how I was going to make it a reality or if it would actually work!
Yet I felt deeply inspired to focus my energy directly on my true passion of opening the way for people to discover their authentic voice – on the page and in the world. I also felt a strong impulse to serve a wide, international audience of aspiring and published authors who value a conscious and creative approach to writing for publication.
So I found a source of high quality, reliable information which resonated with me, and I took action to learn what I needed to know to transform my vision into reality.
Along the way, I had to pause to take care of other commitments and priorities. Yet the vision was taking shape so powerfully that I knew intuitively I was on track and chose to trust the unfolding process completely.
Fast forward to today and I am just emerging from what can only be described as the hugely successful launch of the International Association of Conscious & Creative Writers (IACCW).
So here are five of the valuable lessons I have been reminded of from this experience which can be applied to creating and launching any project:

Many publishers are feeling generally optimistic about the future of the industry. Yet according to Gail Rebuck, chairman and c.e.o. of Random House Group, 2010 will be a year of ‘steady’ rather than stellar results leading towards a ‘tectonic’ shift over the next few years.
She is not alone in her view that the book trade will see the recession through but needs to prepare for continued unprecedented change over the coming years with the increase of interest in all things digital. HarperCollins UK chief executive and publisher Victoria Barnsley agrees, ‘The day when we sold only hardbacks and paperbacks will be looked backed at with wonder.’
One of the big questions about the digital future is whether it will gradually erode the popularity of print books – and ultimately replace certain types of books altogether – or encourage a new audience to enjoy the experience of reading great books?

I hope that 2010 has got off to a great start for you. The full/blue moon on New Year’s Eve seems to have brought in a new wave of energy which I sense is going to make a major impact as we head into the new decade – exciting!
At last I am ready to share the details of my ‘emerging vision’ project. It feels like a perfect moment to do so and I can barely find the words to express how significant this feels and how passionate I am about it.
The project has arisen out of the fact that I find myself to be on a mission which I have chosen to accept fully.
My mission is to open the way for people to discover their authentic voice – on the page and in the world.
There are 3 main reasons why I am so motivated about this …
