Crossing a Creative Threshold

facesWe are simultaneously just a few short weeks, and a whole New Year, away from the moment when I will at last reveal the mystery of what my “emerging vision” project actually is! I am so looking forward to sharing the details with you.

The New Year announcement will mark the end of the initial stages of creation and the beginning of the next phase when communication and connection will become the top priority.

In the meantime, I have recently crossed another major creative threshold which is a reflection of an important stage on the writer’s journey – when you first invite others to view, and potentially contribute to, your work.

This is a significant moment with all creative endeavours which are intended to reach an audience. It is also one of the most challenging steps of bringing a project to fruition.

Why is that?

The reason is that you have to be prepared for some people to say “no” or to reject the work which you will undoubtedly have put a huge amount of energy, effort and time in to creating/writing.

Sharing your work with others for the first time can leave you feeling fragile and vulnerable, and yet these are feelings which need to be processed swiftly so that you can keep the momentum going.

Handling any form of rejection is tough until you have developed a solid understanding and a mindset that is undeterred by the “pebbles” on the creative path.

The reality is that rejection often goes hand in hand with circumstances which are entirely beyond your control and may have nothing whatsoever to do with your project!

So the best way to handle it is not to take it personally and always have other plans so that you can continue moving forwards towards your goal.

With my “emerging vision” project, I totally trust that the people who are meant to be involved will be, and that is enough for me to feel confident in the discussions I am currently engaged in.

This is also the way to feel peaceful and free when sharing your work with the world for the first time.

So I wish you well with crossing your creative threshold when you are ready to invite others to view your writing.

In the meantime, I’m continuing to put the pieces of the jigsaw into place for my new venture and I’ll look forward to sharing the details with you very soon now – watch this space!
