IACCW Member Event: The Role of the Divine Feminine in the Creative Writing Process

Julia McCutchen interviews Andrew HarveyAndrew Harvey 250

Andrew Harvey believes that the survival of humanity depends upon the fullest possible restoration of the powers, passions, and glories of the Divine Feminine.

The Divine Feminine also has a central role in the creative writing process. Writers who embrace this can experience for themselves the transformative power of the Divine Mother.

In this interview, Andrew will:

  • share his overall vision of writing as a form of yoga of the Mother
  • offer 3 simple practices to still the mind and open the heart to her presence and passion to inspire the writing process
  • read 3 key sections from the great sacred texts of the Hindu, Buddhist and Christian traditions that he uses throughout his writing day to perfume his mind and words with her fragrance.

Andrew Harvey is an internationally acclaimed poet, novelist, translator, mystical scholar, and spiritual teacher. He has written over 20 books and has taught at many of the most prestigious universities and spiritual centers in the world. He was the subject of the 1993 BBC film documentary The Making of a Modern Mystic, and is the Founder of the Institute for Sacred Activism. For more information visit, www.andrewharvey.net

What’s new this week?

JMstandingingardenHi Aspiring & Published Authors

When I booked time in my schedule for taking a break in June I hadn’t expected a literal interpretation. Just over two weeks ago I tripped when dashing up the stairs, fell and broke my foot!

Not being able to move around freely has been an eye opening experience. I now have a much deeper understanding and respect for people with mobility issues, and will never again take my feet for granted!

Despite this, I did manage to make it to the wonderful event that Psychologies magazine organized where I presented a workshop on Creating in the Moment (huge gratitude to my husband who drove me from Wiltshire to Covent Garden and back again).

The new process I created for this event was very well received and I am inspired to develop this further. So if you’re intrigued by a whole new approach to engaging with the mystery of the creative process to apply to your writing and all areas of your life, let me know by emailing info@iaccw.com

In the meantime, we have a new audio CD set on offer for you this month. It is an inspiring collection of the best member interviews from 2011. The introductory price is available until Wednesday 1st August. Read more and order your copy here.

Finally, we are switching the IACCW Journal to monthly publication from now on. In between the monthly issues, we’ll send a small number of carefully selected updates and Quick Tips to keep you topped up on conscious and creative news and inspiration.

Enjoy the current issue and have a wonderfully conscious & creative month!

The Journey of Birthing a Book

BeautifulSpiral_ColouredI am delighted to introduce this guest post by author and spiritual teacher Amoda Maa Jeevan. Enjoy!

Writing a book, for me, is like giving birth. From the moment of conception to the emergence of the final manuscript, the journey follows an archetypal pattern that transcends any “how to’s” or “techniques”.

It’s by tapping into this universal birthing process – and by the way, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman, we all have this impulse embedded in our genetic coding – that we can bypass the voice of ego and get into a zone of authentic expression.

Writing from this deeper place makes a world of difference to how your words meet the page and to how the page is read by your audience.

Voice of Ego or Voice of Authentic Self?

The ego is concerned with self-gratification: its primary motivation is “What can I get?” In other words, it is driven by the need to add to its sense of identity. It doesn’t actually matter whether this identity is a positive one or a negative one, as long as it “pumps up” what it already knows about itself. This is called “staying in the comfort zone”.
