The Writer’s Journey – What’s Love Got to Do With It?

RedRoses_Valentine_LoveThere are so many different styles of writing, and so many different types of people who write, you could say there is no single answer to the question, what’s love got to do with it?

For some writers, love doesn’t have anything to do with writing at all. For writers who want to make a positive difference in the world, however, love has everything to do with it!

Love is relevant to every aspect of writing your book and becoming an author. That’s not to say you will love every moment of it. But love is a powerful foundation on which to build your authorship.

Why?

Because you will make the greatest contribution to your readers when your writing comes from love and finds expression through your skills as a writer.

3 Levels of Originality for Non-Fiction Writers

Originality_green_shoot_inLightbulbIn an ideal world, all publishers would love to publish books containing totally original ideas from writers who have entirely authentic voices.

In reality, there is truth in the saying that there is nothing completely new under the sun.

Yet most things in life are relative to your perspective. In the light of this, I see 3 levels at which writers can shine the light of originality:

1. Genuinely Innovative Ideas

Firstly, there are writers who come up with genuinely innovative ideas. They have the ability to see how a subject is developing or may be at its cutting edge with their research and development work.

If we were to investigate deeply within ancient wisdom, we may find many principles to echo the work being done today, as has often proved to be the case in recent years.

However, few of us have the aptitude, access or inclination to delve into ancient texts, understand their message and draw out aspects to be re-presented with fresh relevance for a contemporary audience.

For those who do, or for those who are able to write on the cutting-edge of information that readers today are excited to know, the credit of ‘original work’ is rightfully theirs.

5 Qualities of Successful Authors #5: Authenticity

Authentic_Alignment_whiteStonesAuthenticity has become something of a ‘buzz’ word in recent years and appears in connection with many different aspects of our lives.

But what does it really mean to be authentic and why is it something worth paying attention to?

The standard definition is ‘real’ and this is often presented alongside synonyms such as ‘credible’, ‘genuine’, ‘original’ and ‘true’.

These words represent a good starting point but don’t go quite far enough to explain the true power of authenticity.

A deeper level of meaning lies in understanding that authenticity is present when the inner you (the real you) is connected with the outer you (the interface you have with the world). When inner truth and outer expression are in alignment, authenticity empowers all that you think, say and do … and write!

5 Qualities of Successful Authors #2 Commitment

Commitment_TickoverRedCircleMaking a commitment to something – or someone – is all about making a pledge or a promise … and then engaging yourself totally in the fulfilment of it.

As far as your writing is concerned, developing and strengthening the quality of your commitment will mean the difference between writing or not writing, and taking action or allowing resistance to hold you back.

Commitment sets the scene for all of the small choices that you make every day in relation to your writing.

It also guides you when you come to make the larger decisions regarding how to move forwards when you’re ready to take your work out to the marketplace. And it helps you to access the information and support you need to do so.

Ultimately, your degree of commitment to your writing will be a strong determining factor in your experience of ‘success’ or ‘failure’ – however you choose to define what those terms mean for you.

IACCW Member Event: Seven Practices to Find Your Authentic Voice

Julia McCutchen interviews Andrea Beaulieu eeandrea_03351

Thursday 3rd June at
16:00 BST / 11:00 EST

We all have it – that still, small voice that urges us gently, quietly, but ever so confidently, in the direction of our highest good. It is our authentic voice – the one we were born knowing. Then, through experience and the conditioning of the mind, we often lose our conscious connection to it, except perhaps during times of danger, or when we have surrendered to our authentic self so deeply and joyfully that we hear it and follow it.

That same voice is the voice of our highest creativity. It is the voice that gives us the perfect idea, solution or direction. It gives us the perfect words and actions to express our uniqueness. It is the voice that shows up when we face the blank page, if we listen for it and to it. It is our authentic voice.

Lessons Learned from a Successful Creative Launch

Perfect_momentAbout this time last year I made a decision to pursue an idea for a major new creative project despite having no idea how I was going to make it a reality or if it would actually work!

Yet I felt deeply inspired to focus my energy directly on my true passion of opening the way for people to discover their authentic voice – on the page and in the world. I also felt a strong impulse to serve a wide, international audience of aspiring and published authors who value a conscious and creative approach to writing for publication.

So I found a source of high quality, reliable information which resonated with me, and I took action to learn what I needed to know to transform my vision into reality.

Along the way, I had to pause to take care of other commitments and priorities. Yet the vision was taking shape so powerfully that I knew intuitively I was on track and chose to trust the unfolding process completely.

Fast forward to today and I am just emerging from what can only be described as the hugely successful launch of the International Association of Conscious & Creative Writers (IACCW).

So here are five of the valuable lessons I have been reminded of from this experience which can be applied to creating and launching any project:
