How to Apply Timeless Wisdom to Writing Your Book for Publication

Level # 1 - Earth

Scroll down to read the about other levels ...

My approach to writing a book for publication could be described as holistic because I emphasize the unquantifiable value of aligning body, mind, emotions and soul at every stage of the journey.

As a result, you will find your true voice, discover your Self in the process and then write consciously, creatively, successfully and with soul.

Now that is the kind of charismatic combination your audience adores!

The writer’s journey is about who you are when you write and market your book as well as what you write and how you communicate with your readers.

I teach a multitude of tools and techniques to open the way for writers to experience the truth of this for themselves.

One system of timeless wisdom which incorporates all of the qualities required to ignite the full potential of your writer’s journey delivers profound insights via the 7 major energy centres in the body called the chakras.

Each centre reveals both universal principles and individual programming which govern life, love, learning … and creative expression.

Science is finally catching up – mainly via quantum physics – with what yogis, sages and awakened individuals have been saying for millennia. There is no need, however, to become a scientist or a mystic to benefit from applying the basics of this powerful, natural energy system.

Creating the right internal and external space for your writing to flow freely will make a huge difference to the results you achieve.

So read on for a simplified approach to incorporating more than just your mind to writing your book. See for yourself how much richer, deeper, and more rewarding your writing experience will be.

Level # 1 – Earth

Here are some of the qualities associated with the earth centre:

  • Beginning
  • Roots
  • Grounding
  • Practical
  • Ready to grow
  • The body
  • Relaxed
  • Happy
  • Confident
  • Strong

One of the first challenges for many people is to make a start and then begin again each day to complete the writing.

Yet the energy of ‘beginning’ doesn’t stop there.

If you want to find an agent or publisher, you have to begin the process of taking your book out to the world with all that entails – writing a book proposal, building a platform ...

If you are self-publishing, you start by learning what the process actually involves …

When your book is published, the marketing and promotion phase really takes off.

Each stage on the path to publication – and beyond - has its own 'beginning'.

Moving on from there, in order to be successful as an author, having ideas is simply not enough. You need to ground your ideas with practical application otherwise they may never find their way into the hearts and minds of your readers.

When you plant a seed in the earth and nurture it, roots develop and it grows to achieve its full potential as a flower or tree. The same principle applies to the ideas you want to share and the stories you want to tell.

The earth centre also relates to the physical body as well as the emotions of feeling relaxed, happy and confident.

Certainly if your body is fit and well-nourished, you are far more likely to feel positive and strong ... and inspired to write.

Bringing you awareness to these foundation level qualities will open up new opportunities for you to work more consciously and creatively with each stage of the writing process.

So here are 3 tips to help you nurture the earth energies within you:

  1. Go for regular 30 minute walks, ideally outside in nature.

Consciously take strong, firm steps as you walk and really feel the ground beneath your feet.

The physical movement, and specifically the rhythm of walking, is an effective way to release ideas ‘held’ in the body.

Schedule time at the end to relax and enjoy the boost your energy system will have received.

Alternatively, focus that energy into some writing or other activity relating to your book’s success.

  2. Prioritise looking after your body in some small way every day for the next 21 days.

Give yourself the gift of eating nourishing food, drinking more water and plenty of good quality sleep.

Yes, I know that you know that these are good ideas …but are you actually doing them?

Make this enjoyable by sharing a healthy meal with a partner or friends. And why not treat yourself to a good massage while you’re at it!

Pay attention to how creative you are when you’re feeling good in your body and the lift that gives to your writing.

  3. Make a plan of the practical steps you need to take to begin the next stage of your writer’s journey – and then take action!

Getting yourself organised at a practical level will often make the difference between your book happening – or not as the case may be!

So what do you need to do next?

Sign up for a course or a class, do some research or find a mentor to work with to help you move forwards.

As always, the only way you will discover the benefits I am describing is to have an open mind and give these ideas a try.

Enjoy the journey!

Level # 2 - Water

One system of timeless wisdom which incorporates all of the qualities required to ignite the full potential of your writer’s journey delivers profound insights via the 7 major energy centres in the body called the chakras.

Each centre reveals both universal principles and individual programming which govern life, love, learning … and creative expression.

Read on for a simplified approach to incorporating more than just your mind to writing your book. See for yourself how much richer, deeper, and more rewarding your writing experience will be.

Level # 2 – Water

Here are some of the qualities associated with the water centre:

  • Change
  • Movement
  • Emotions
  • Creativity
  • Pleasure
  • Polarity
  • Sexuality
  • Magnetism

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus (c.535 BC – 475 BC) is famous for his comments about change being central to the universe when he pronounced that ‘the only constant is change’.

When it comes to the creative process of writing a book for publication, change and movement are inherent to all stages of the journey.

The first sparks of inspiration for your book are often the first signs of creative ‘movement’ as the ideas arise in your conscious mind.

These ideas continue to evolve, change and grow as you work with them and as they find their way to the page.

In fact unless you have movement and change as part of your creative process, your writing will quickly grind to a halt.

This is when writers feel stuck or blocked, and need some kind of internal or external trigger to kick start the process once more.

As you progress along the path to publication, and beyond, having the ability to change, move and adapt to the prevailing circumstances serves you well.

This is especially the case when you are looking for an agent or publisher to take you on, or when you are researching self-publishing options.

Yet the same is true when you are marketing and promoting your book.

Moving fast to respond to journalists’ requests for interviews or being flexible enough to change how you present your topic to fit the focus of a particular feature marks you out as a professional author.

And the other qualities of the water centre are equally relevant on the path to publication.

For example, the emotional roller-coaster of writing a book takes some people by surprise. Yet knowing about this in advance enables you to prepare to ride the crest of the wave.

In fact strengthening your ability generally to ‘go with the flow’ – an obvious characteristic of water – will support you to stay the course of becoming a successful published author.

So here are 3 tips to help you nurture the water energies within you:

  1. Be mindful of water generally over the next 21 days and embrace not only the life-giving properties but also the cleansing and refreshing potential of this valuable resource.

We all know that a high percentage of the human body is water and how important it is to drink plenty of fresh water daily for optimum health.

But do you actually do so? If not, try starting the day with a large glass of water (not too cold!) before your first tea, coffee or juice. Creativity flows more freely through a healthy mind and body.

When you are next in the shower, really feel the force of the water gushing down from its source rejuvenating your body ...

Paying attention to water at every opportunity will increase your connection to this flowing energy.

  2. Stop for a few moments and bring your awareness to the natural movement of the internal workings of your own body.

Notice the ebb and flow of your breath as your chest rises and falls. Feel the air pass in and out, back and forth, empty and full.

Become conscious of the beating of your heart and the flow of blood which is the river of life connecting each and every cell within you.

Being alive is all about motion and change. By the time you finish reading this article, both you and the world around you will be different.

Understand that conscious creative expression, on the page and in all areas of your life, is about learning to surf these waves.

  3. Engage in regular stream of consciousness writing – over and above all other writing you may be doing.

This type of writing, where the emphasis is on pouring words out without censorship, is remarkably beneficial at every level.

It enables you to gain new perspectives, process feelings and build your connection to the writing process.

Usually it is done in the context of writing in a journal that is ‘for your eyes only’, and the content is entirely related to the present moment of what you are thinking or feeling.

This outpouring encourages your ideas to flow, just like water does on its way down the side of a mountain.

So if you’ve never tried it, or haven’t done so in a while, give yourself 20 minutes a day for the next month to experience for yourself the value this kind of ‘watery’ writing process.

    Enjoy!
